The Night Shelter is run almost entirely by a fantastic team of volunteers.
Volunteering to help at the Night Shelter
72 different people did at least 1 shift last year, and the feedback we’ve got from volunteers has been great. Friendships have been made and good times have been had, and lots of thanks all around.
No previous experience or particular skills are required to volunteer – the only attributes sought are compassion for the homeless, and willingness to commit time and care to this role. Annual training is provided for all volunteers – please follow the link to find details of training dates.
DBS Checks
These can be done free of charge at Wakefield Baptist Church for all volunteers. You will need to bring in your passport, driving license and a bill within the last 3 months (or your annual council tax bill). If there are any of these documents you don’t have please contact the church office and we will help you – 01924 382966. When you complete a volunteer application form you will be asked to bring these documents in and your DBS application will be undertaken on line with you in the room – it only takes 5-10 minutes.
